Formula: Bio

Formula  started in 1983 with 4 friends in boardering states, West Virginia and Kentucky. We were and still are an original band. We write all our music. We have 3 CD"S out. (Time Of Day), was our first. Followed by,  (Private World) and our latest is (moment to moment). We are currently working  on our newest CD, which is coming along nicely.

I have been asked, what style  of rock is our music? Well, This is always hard for me , But I am going to give it my best shot.  First I will say its 80"s Rock, Arena Rock. Easy listening But it makes you want to get up and move. It will also make you think about the storys the songs are telling.A little blues mixed in here and there makes you want to say COOL .With the heavy influence of our keyboard player, L.E. Simpkins, our music can go as deep as Yes and Pink Floyd, but we don't sound like them.

As of 2009,  Formula band is still kicking. Just think about it. Formula started in 1983. Still going in 2009. How many local bands can say that? All we want to do and all we have ever wanted to do is write orginal music that we can be proud of and its music that anyone can listen to .

I guess I should interduce the band members from 1983 until now.  Well, on drums in the 80"s was Danny Lusk,All I can say about Danny is,Professional. Danny mixed his jazz fusion drumming with our 80"s rock which proved to be a winning combo. I always felt it was a honor to recorded with Danny.

Our bass player in the early years was none other than the Late Larry Hall, from Ky.  Larry new more about bass playing and how the bass  should fit in a song better than anyone I have ever met. Larry you are MISSED!

In the 80"s and 90"s we had the privatage of Paul Pigman playing the Bass guitar for us.  What can I say about Paul?  Well, I think L.E. will agree, We gave Paul a nickname, We called him, Mister Smoooth. Paul's bass work seemed effortless to him. Pauls bass tone and playing was like no other. His bass playing fit our music like a glove.

Playing the Keyboards and singings back up vocals also  from day 1. A cofounder of formula is L.E. Simpkins, L.E. is also cowriter and arranger of all of Formula"s music. L.E. has a mountain of sound that comes out his finger tips and through his keyboards.L.E. has received global success playing background music for TV shows including the Howie Mandale Show, The Drew Carey Show,MTV,VH1, and various TV and Radio stations in Europe.  L.E. owns a really cool recording studio,( Time Studio ) at Buskirk,KY.
